Celtic Blue Moon

Show #508  Judged

MADE BY: Melody Peters

QUILTED BY:  Melody Peters

I didn't complete this for my November 2019 Scotland trip, so that gave me more time to add embroidery, beading and crystals this year to get it ready for the April 2020 show.

Took a guild sponsored Discovery Days class taught by Gail Reinke. I wouldn't have tackled this pattern without taking the class. The class made assembling the tote enjoyable. Quilts Illustrated Portfolio Tote Pattern by Penny Sturges.

Tool Tote

MADE BY: Teri Sartain

QUILTED BY:  Teri Sartain

I saw this Quilts Illustrated Tool Tote pattern at two different quilt shows in the same year. A friend convinced me to buy the pattern because she had purchased the pattern years before; we could work together to make the totes. It was a challenging pattern and we had many laughs. I love my finished tote.

What a lot of fun we had in this, one of our last in person Discovery Days with Gail Reinke. I loved the panda fabric and was challenged to layout and stitch the bag so that the pandas were right side up. Thanks Gail for teaching us so many new skills!

Tiny Churn Dash

Show #511

MADE BY: Peggie Wormington

QUILTED BY:  Peggie Wormington

I like to challenge myself and wondered if I could make a miniature of the Churn Dash, one of my favorite traditional patterns. I learned a lot! By the way, making little quilts is not the best way to use up your stash.  This miniature quilt is 10” x 12”.

Pinwheels in the Cabin

Show #512

QUILTED BY:  Peggie Wormington

For a short time in 2020 we were all blessed to meet and learn in person. In early 2020 I attended Fabric Garden's monthly Little Quilts group. Each month we made a different little quilt. For this one each block is 6" x 6" and each pinwheel is 2" x 2". Here we are in 2021 and still not able to get together to sew and learn from one another, but I am very grateful that Fabric Garden is still in business and I hope to be able to join them in the classroom soon.  This miniature quilt is 20” x 20”.

This tote bag has large pockets on the front and back, sturdy handles and a zipper closure along the top. The pockets have a tropical jungle bird print which reminds me of the wonderful birding trips I've done in the jungles of South America. I made this in a workshop with Gail Reinke. This small quilt looked easy and quick. I had to dig out my 30 year old embroidery hoop to create the garland. It is reversible with a red/white/blue flag theme for the 4th of July. Perfect table topper gift. Design by Red Button Quilt Co.  This miniature quilt is 16” x 16”.

Lisa Bonjean is one of my favorite designers. Several years ago Lisa gave this pattern and fabric to participants in her Summer Block of the Week program. I made the appliqué quickly but struggled with the borders in her design. After much thought I redesigned the borders and quickly completed this project in 2020 for our show. Thank you Lisa for your inspiration and generosity. This little wall hanging honors Betty Larson, a talented quilter and kind friend.  This miniature quilt is 24” x 24”.

Bag of Blues

Show #519

MADE BY: Janet Ryczaj

QUILTED BY:  Janet Ryczaj

I was amazed when I saw all the beautiful wearables Rami Kim made during her presentation and just had to take her class. I didn't get a lot of the purse done in the class, but I was determined to finish it. It took me a while to get all the techniques figured out using her book and viewing some of her tutorials online. But I did it and it was a lot of fun learning new things you can do with fabric.
